Unlike a series, an animated TV special occupies a unique place: a standalone feature-length film designed to be broadcast or released as a single piece, without sequels or seasons. Troublemakers Originals is currently developing and producing several animated TV specials for television and streaming platforms.

This format allows for a complete story, combining the scope of a feature film with the focused impact of a one-off release.

From Writing to Release, Our Process

Every animated special begins with a focused writing phase: synopsis, screenplay and visual development. We then build the project's financing with broadcasters, platforms and co-production partners.

Production follows the same level of care as a feature film: storyboarding, animatics, animation, sound and music, through to delivery in the formats required for release.

A production structure adapted to standalone long-form animation

An animated TV special does not need to set up a sequel. This freedom allows writers to bring a story to a full conclusion and take the time needed for resolution, without the narrative constraints of a series. It also makes it possible to explore subjects that do not necessarily justify an entire season, while giving the story enough space to fully develop.

This format is particularly well suited to literary adaptations, special events and broadcaster commissions designed for specific programming slots.

The short film format

Short films allow for risks that can be difficult to take on a feature: an unusual technique, a radical tone or experimental storytelling. It is often through short films that the most distinctive visual worlds emerge.

At Troublemakers Originals, we explore every animation technique: 2D, 3D, stop motion, cut-out, paint-on-glass and hybrid processes. Each film calls for its own technique, chosen to serve the story.
